Assam Journalist Pension Scheme

The Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Govt of Assam is going to award Pension to the retired journalist who are permanent residents of Assam.

In this regard, applications are invited from the retired journalist for awarding Pension under the ” Assam Pension Scheme for Journalist” for the year 2024-25. 

About Assam Journalist Pension Scheme

Assam Pension Scheme for Journalist is an initiative by the Assam Government aimed at providing financial support to senior journalist in the state who retire at the age of 60 and have served in Assam for at least 20 years. This scheme is a part of the government’s effort to recognize the contributions of journalists who have dedicated their lives to the profession. 

Eligibility Criteria

In order to avail the Assam Journalist Pension Scheme, applicant must meet the following criteria:

1.  He/She has to attain 60 years of age and has to retire from the job of a journalist/ photo journalist/ correspondent/ camera person (news).
2.  He/She must be domicile of Assam and must have served as a journalist in Assam for not less than 20 years preceding his/her date of retirement.
3. He/She must be a journalist as defined under Working Journalist Act, 1955. Preference will be given to those who were issued Recognition/ Accreditation Card by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Govt of Assam.
4. He/She must not be drawing any pension from any source expect under the Employees Provident Fund.
5. The Proprietor, Proprietor-cum-Editor, Manager-cum-Editor and those nature of job is not related to working journalist will not be eligible for the scheme.
6. The Government Servant shall not be eligible for Journalist Pension. One Person shall no get more than one pension out of Pensions for Journalist/ Literature/ Sports persons.

Assam Journalist Pension Amount

An amount of Rs. 8000/- per month will be provided as pension to the retired journalists who served in Assam for at least 20 years. 

How to Apply for Journalist Pension in Assam 2024?

Intending retired journalist fulfilling the required criteria will have to submit their application dully filled up in the prescribed format along with all related papers/documents.
