In a significant move, the Assam Govt has announced changes to the exam pattern for the Assam Direct Recruitment Exam (ADRE) 2024, known as ADRE 2.0 for both Grade III and Grde IV positions. Here is a detailed overview of the changes:
ADRE Previous Year Pattern
The previous ADRE exam consisted of a single written test, followed by skill test and document verfication. The exam consited of MCQs focused mainly on General knowlegde, English, Logical Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude, Mathematics, Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning.
ADRE New Exam Pattern
As per the Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma through Facebook live coverage on 8 July 2024, there will be changes in the exam pattern of the ADRE 2024 exam.
The New ADRE exam pattern includes multiple stages to ensure a comprehensive recruitment process of candidates. Thse stages typycally includes:-
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Viva-Voce/ Interview
- ADRE Prelims: The initial stage will now consist of preliminary exam, a screening test/ written test to shorlist candidates for main exam.
– ADRE prelims will be of CBT or pen paper is not confirmed yet.
– ADRE prelims question will be MCQ type. - ADRE Mains: Candidate who clear the priliminary stage will advance to the main exam. A more detailed assessment focusing on core subjects related to the position.
- Viva-Voce/ Interview/ Skill Test: Depending on the job profile, there must be a skill test or interview as the final stage.
Since the Assam govt has decided to conduct prelims for ADRE as the first round of recruitment process. Now many candidates have been questioning where the ADRE Prelims 2024 will be of MCQ or decription.
Comments about ADRE Exam Pattern Change
Many students are not happy with the sudden change in the exam pattern of the upcoming ADRE 2024 examination. Many of them have express their anger, frustration through social media. Here’s the few.
- Nabajit Nath has compared new ADRE pattern change with the exisitng APSC exam “Even the grade-II post exams which are conducted by APSC doesn’t have mains examination, on which ground they take the decision to include pre, main & viva on a grade-III examination. Completely unfair”.

The Assam Govt has reversed its decision to change the ADRE Exam Patten. The Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma have decided to revisit its decision to change the pattern of ADRE exam based on the feedback from various quarters.
ADRE Final Exam Pattern: Assam Govt Confirms to Retain Exam Pattern of ADRE
The Assam Govt made significant changes in ADRE 2.0 Exam Pattern recently, affecting how candidates prepare and strategize for the exam. The ADRE exam were announced to be conducted in three stages – preliminary, mains, and viva voce from September.
But, as per feedback received from aspirants and people regarding not changing the ADRE exam pattern, The Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma have decided that the ADRE 2.0 exam pattern will remain the same as last year. There will be One written exam followed by a Viva-Voce.
